History of Oro-Medonte Fire & Emergency Services

History of the Department

The Oro-Medonte Fire Department was formed in 1994 to serve the amalgamated Townships of Oro and Medonte, which were merged as part of the county-wide Municipal restructuring. Originally operating from six Fire Stations located in Shanty Bay, Hawkestone, Horseshoe Valley, Rugby, Warminster & Moonstone. Further restructuring in 2023 saw the merger of the Hawkestone and Rugby Fire Stations and relocated the newly built Station in East Oro.

Now referred to as Oro-Medonte Fire & Emergency Services the Department protects the largest Municipality within Simcoe County and maintains a roster of 100-120 Volunteer Firefighters.
